Comments On "Shangri-La" Caves Story

The news story "Shangri-La" Caves Yield Treasures, Skeletons highlights an expedition to a remote area of Nepal that contains thousands of man-made caves.

Although the caves were man-made, they provided quite an adventure for the expedition members as they are located high on sheer cliff walls.

Inside some of the caves were found thousands of documents from a pre-Buddhist religion. It was something like discovering the Dead Sea Scrolls! Human remains were found in other caves used as burial sites. Still other caves contain Buddhist paintings.

The whole story is told in a National Geographic film titled "Secrets of Shangri-La". This was shown on KPBS last night. If you didn't get to see it, you can get the DVD at I highly recommend it.
